PJ's Guitar Chords & Lyrics - Guitar Tip - Learn the Major Scale ( Joy to the World )

Learn the Major Scale and Joy to the World!   -  Andrew Koblick, Amazing Guitar

Now that the holidays are upon us I am teachng my local students some Christmas carols. One song I love to teach is Joy to the World.
the reason I love this is because it is also a great way to learn the major scale frontwards and backwards.

We will use the G scale played at the 3rd Fret.

The scale is played using this fingering:

1 - Do = Low E string  - 3rd Fret  -   2nd finger
2 - Re =        E string  - 5th Fret  -   4th Finger
3 - Mi =        A String - 2nd Fret   -  1st finger
4 - Fa =        A string  - 3rd Fret  -   2nd finger
5 - So =        A string  - 5th Fret  -   4th Finger
6 - La =        D String - 2nd Fret   -  1st finger
7 - Ti =         D String - 4th Fret   -  3rd finger
8 - Do =        D String - 2nd Fret   -  4th finger

Joy to the World is simply:

8     7  6        5     4    3    2     1
Joy to the World
5  6  6  7  7  8

Now see if you can find the rest of the notes.

You still have a couple of weeks!

I want to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season and a special thank you to PJ for sponsoring a great site for guitarist.

I am honored by the support PJ has given Amazing Guitar and nothing makes my day more than when I receive a letter
from one of PJs friends like these:

I have been playing guitar for about 5 years and I consider myself to be somewhere between intermediate and advanced.
I found your video extremely helpful with the comprehension of scales, 3rds, 5ths, etc.
I know this is just the tip of the iceberg but with just this bit of knowledge I have learned,
I have vastly expanded my knowledge of scale mechanics on the fretboard.......... awsome!   thanks

Hi Andrew, thanx for all your support. I recently bought a Fender Stratacoustic and your techniques are really paying off with my guitar playing.
I just want you to know that without getting your video I would'nt have been able to keep playing so thank you so much!!!

Hi Andrew, Just a few words to say THANK YOU for your amazing guitar video. This is the best money I have ever spent on guitar tuition.
I have only had the D V D for a few days but even in this short time I can see that my understanding of the guitar and my playing will be much improved.
                             Thank's again, Chris, VT
